What is a Jaycee?

The Junior Chamber or Jaycees organization is referred to as "The organization of choice for young people!" Now in its seventh decade of service, it continues to provide direction and leadership to communities, states and nations around the world.

The Junior Chamber is a constructive action organization of men and women, ages 21-39. Members develop personally and professionally as leaders in their communities by investing time and energy in civic affairs. The Lakewood Junior Chamber of Commerce (Lakewood Jaycees), founded in 1928, chartered in 1938, is one of the top ten longest continuing chapters in the state of Ohio! Our membership numbers over 45 active members who help make our community a great place to live. We serve the community in 4 ways:

COMMUNITY AFFAIRS: Activities and projects are created and implemented through our chapter to benefit Lakewood based organizations.

INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT: In addition to the volunteer work we do, we are also interested in helping our members build leadership and personal skills.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT: Raising funds is one of the most complex area's of our chapter. We have many projects that will touch on the other areas of development, but our focus from these projects is the money that we will raise.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Recruiting, developing, and encouraging members is a vital role in the Jaycees. The Lakewood Jaycees Chapter currently has members of diverse backgrounds and careers.

The Junior Chamber Advantage

The Junior Chamber is a people-building organization. Jaycees find they have a definite advantage in life because of their involvement in activities and events. High community visibility, establishing rewarding friendships and professional contacts, participating in major community affairs, and the gratification of servicing humanity, are just a few of the member benefits. Empowered by the organization, each member is provided the opportunity to develop personal and professional skills through an impressive array of top-notch training. Chapter, state, national and international training programs are provided by leaders in business and social fields. Networking at Junior Chamber events allows members to meet and network with other action-oriented professionals. Many Jaycees and alumni have excelled in government and business. Socially, members develop a network of friends, some even globally, which last a lifetime.

Junior Chamber Memberships

Membership in the Junior Chamber begins in a local chapter. Chapter size ranges from 20 to more than 1,000 members. Many of the benefits members realize come from chapter involvement. Each member also belongs to a state Junior Chamber organization, as well as The United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber International. One annual membership fee provides each member a multitude of opportunities at all levels of the Junior Chamber organization.
